Bryan Bedder/Getty ImagesSt. Louis rapper Huey was fatally shot and killed in a double shooting late Thursday night in his hometown of Kinloch, Missouri. He was 32.
Huey, born Lawrence Franks Jr., was one of two victims involved in the shooting, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Another victim, a 21-year old male, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
The shooting took place in the front yard of a home that allegedly belonged to Huey’s family. According to police, Franks was pronounced dead after being rushed to a local hospital in a private vehicle Thursday night by someone at the scene.
St. Louis police detectives have asked witnesses to come forward with information after police say as many as 10 people might have witnessed the shooting.
Huey was known for his 2006 debut single, “Pop Lock and Drop It,” after being signed to Jive Records. The two-times platinum single peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Huey’s debut album, Notebook Paper, slid into the number-four spot on the Top Rap Albums chart.
Huey went onto release tracks with Lloyd, T-Pain, Juelz Santana and Bobby V on 2010’s Redemption album. His latest effort was his 2014 Project H mixtape.
Huey is survived his 13-year old daughter, Lawyrn.
