Thaddaeus McAdams/GettyImagesCam’ron hopped a flight to Colombia to shoot the video for “Medellin,” reminding us what it meant to travel abroad before COVID-19.
Killa Cam joined Roberto Escobar, co-founder of the Medellín Cartel and brother of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar at one of their estates and rapped in front of a mural inspired by his album, Purple Haze 2.
Escobar may be the king of the drug world, but Cam’ron says king status depends on what that king can do.
“Who’s the King of New York, realistically? Who you want me to say, [Governor Andrew] Cuomo? Cuomo may be the King of New York. King of New York, what does that pertain to?”, Cam’ron sarcastically told Complex during a recent interview.
Cam admitted it was a common theme for New York rappers to proclaim king status, just as Tekashi 6ix9ine, and the late rappers Pop Smoke and Notorious B.I.G have done.
“We all went through that coming up because Biggie was King of New York, then I said ‘I’m the King’,” he said. “It’s a time period to let these artists feel that way.”
He genuinely declared Diddy and Jay-Z as kings in regard to their financial status, but says the ultimate determination is up to you.
“At the end of the day, if you’re not cracking a billion, what makes you the King? It depends on what your philosophy of the King is,” Cam declares.
While in quarantine, Cam’ron also revealed he’s been keeping occupied with his in-house stripper-less strip club, due to COVID-19, and working on new music.
